Logistics and transport
Transporting and trading in sunflower oil, like any other liquid commodity, requires careful attention to logistics,
quality assurance, and regulatory standards.
AgriVia Oil has developed an extensive global logistics network to transport our products, including trucks,
railcars, river barges and ocean freight vessels.
Typically, we either lease the transportation assets or contract with third parties for these services. To better
serve our customers and develop our global distribution and logistics capabilities, we own or operate either
directly or through joint venture arrangements, various transport facilities in the whole country.
Vessels
The international trade on vessels involves various logistical, regulatory, and financial considerations. With
more than 15 years of experience in this kind of trade and more than 100k metric tones of oil exported every
year, AgriVia Oil is considered as one of the most reliable partners on the Balkan peninsula.
Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of our team expertise regarding some of the technical aspects of this
kind of contracts:
Vessel Chartering:
– Type of Vessel: Via our network of 3th party agents, we organise transportation on tankers that are
specially designed for carrying edible oils.
– Size: The size of the vessel will depend on the quantity being traded. Smaller vessels are used for regional
trades, while larger ones for intercontinental shipments. AgriVia Oil has experience on all sizes of vessels
from 2k metric tones up to 20k metric tones big tankers.
Loading & Discharge:
– Ports: The selection of ports will depend on the logistics at the origin and destination. Some ports are
better equipped to handle bulk liquid cargoes. In most cases we operate from Port of Varna and Port of
Bourgas.
– Equipment: Special equipment like hoses and pumps are used to load and discharge the oil to avoid
contamination.
– Inspections: According to the agreement, inspectors might take samples at the loading and discharge
points to ensure the oil’s quality is maintained.
Trains
Transporting sunflower oil by railway involves several specifics to ensure safety, quality preservation, and
compliance with regulations.
From last year 2022, AgriVia Oil owns its own rail way composition, build from 18 cisterns and 2 locomotives.
In order to respond to emergent calls for product and stay flexible, we have also long term agreement with
the national rail way company in Bulgaria.
Containers
Transportation of sunflower oil using containers and flexi tanks requires careful planning and attention to
details to ensure the product reaches its destination in good condition.
AgriVia Oil exports around 10k metric tones of crude and refined oil on containers, equipped with flexi-tanks
for Africa, Europe and Asia.
Оverview of the specifics:
Containers and Flexi Tanks:
Flexi Tanks: These are large, flexible containers designed to fit inside 20-foot standard containers. They
can hold between 16,000 to 24,000 liters (approximately 4,200 to 6,300 gallons) of liquid, depending on the
manufacturer and specifications.

Standard Containers: The standard containers used in combination with flexi tanks are usually 20-foot
containers.
Advantages of Using Flexi Tanks:
Cost-Efficiency: Flexi tanks offer a cost-effective way of transporting large volumes of sunflower oil without
the need for ISO tanks or drums.
Safety: Flexi tanks are designed to be safe for the transportation of food-grade liquids.
Single-Use: Reduces the risk of cross-contamination, as each flexi tank is used once and then recycled or
disposed of.
Trucks
Transporting sunflower oil via bulk liquid tankers by road involves numerous considerations for safety,
quality, and regulatory compliance.
When selecting a transportation company or purchasing a tanker for this purpose, our team ensures that the
equipment meets all necessary specifications and that the operators are knowledgeable about the specific
requirements and best practices associated with transporting sunflower oil.
AgriVia Oil exports more than 20k metric tones of refined and crude sunflower oil for neighbor countries and
Central Europe and dispose with a fleet of 30 bulk cisterns for maximum flexibility.
Technical Specifics:
Tanker Specifications:
Material: Stainless steel or food-grade tanks to prevent contamination.
Insulation: Although sunflower oil doesn’t need temperature control like some other oils, an insulated
tanker helps maintain a consistent temperature and protects against extreme weather conditions.
Cleaning: The tanker should be thoroughly cleaned and dried to prevent contamination. Cleaning is
always documented with washing certificate.
Capacity: Typical road tankers might have a capacity ranging from 20,000 liters to 30,000 liters, but the
size can vary.
Loading Temperature: Sunflower oil should be loaded at a temperature that ensures its fluidity, usually
between 25°C to 30°C.
Sampling: Samples should be taken before loading to ensure the quality of the oil.
Avoid Contamination: Ensure there’s no residual material from previous cargoes in the tanker.
Documentation: Bill of lading, Certificate of Analysis, weight tickets, and any other relevant
documentation are provided by our team for each shipment. Compliance with local, national, and
international regulations for transporting edible oils is essential priority for us.
